Cattle Egret

Ardeidae: Bubulcus ibis

Although there are a lot of domesticated cattle in Kenya, these egrets seemed to prefer other animals.

The Cattle Egret, about 50cm in height, eats insects which follow certain animals around, or which they bring up from the ground while eating. In this way, it is not as dependent on the presence of a body of water as most egrets and herons are.
