Hunter's Sunbird

Nectariniidae: Nectarinia hunteri (also Chalcomitra hunteri)

Sunbirds feed on nectar, and sometimes insects. Hunter's Sunbird is 14cm in length. This one was in the lodge garden at Amboseli.

Identification Note:

This seeems to be Hunter's Sunbird because of the size and shape of the red patch, and the blue mouth bar which is just visible. Also it was found in dry country at Amboseli. Nonetheless, it could be the Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Nectarinia senegalensis (aka Chalcomitra senegalensis).
