Plain-backed Pipit

Motacillidae: Anthus leucophrys

The Plain-backed Pipit (16cm)  is a common and widespread bird of the grasslands. It is an insect eater. This bird was seen in the Maasai Mara.

Identification Note:

The Plain-backed Pipit closely resembles the widespread and common African Pipit, also called the Grassland Pipit. However, the bird in these photographs has very long legs and a notable upright stance, and the back appears to be unstreaked. All these points suggest it is the Plain-backed rather than the African.
