Ploceus Weavers

Ploceidae: Ploceus spp.

The Weavers of the genus Ploceus, of which there are thirty in Kenya, are yellow birds (in the case of the breeding male) who build complex, usually beautiful nests, often in colonies. They are one of the symbols of Africa to visitors. A few of the thirty species are widespread, but many can be seen only in a very restricted area. They are seed-eaters. These birds can be difficult to distinguish. We saw seven species.
