Rufous-naped Lark
Alaudidae: Mirafra africana
The Rufous-naped Lark is about 17cm in length, and feeds on seeds and insects in short grass. These pictures (of two different birds) were taken in Maasai Mara.
The Rufous-naped Lark is difficult to distinguish from the Red-winged Lark, which we did not see. This latter is larger and has a longer tail. Their ranges are said not to overlap, with the Red-winged species in the east and the Rufous-naped in the west.
