Slender-tailed Nightjar

Caprimulgidae: Caprimulgus clarus

Nightjars nest on the ground, and are camouflaged appropriately. They fly after dusk and catch moths and other night insects. The Slender-tailed nightjar is about 23cm long.

Safari lodge lights are useful for attracting moths, and this photo was taken at Amboseli Lodge where the bird was common, spending the day hiding in the scrub at the garden edge.
