Steppe Eagle

Accipitridae: Aquila nipalensis

The Steppe Eagle breeds from Romania through to Mongolia. Birds from the west of this range spend the winter in Africa. Birds from the east of the range winter in India, and in this migration, cross Nepal in large numbers, hence its Latin name. It is about 75cm in length.  It scavenges, and also kills small mammals.
