White-bellied & Black-bellied Bustard

Otitidae: Eupodotis senegalensis canicollis (White-bellied)

Otitidae: Eupodotis melanogaster (Black-bellied)

White-bellied and Black-bellied Bustards are  about 60cm in length. Like all bustards, they are omnivorous, walking around looking for food on the ground. Both species were found in the Maasai Mara.

The black underthroat and black line down the neck front, as well as the darker tint to the plumage distinguish the Black-bellied Bustard (right) from the White-bellied (left). Both of these are male birds. Females are paler, and less easy to distinguish.
