Rift Valley 1/2

The eastern part of Africa is splitting apart from the western part. The Rift Valley, which goes from the Red Sea to South Africa is the sign of this split. The Rift is not a simple straight line, but has side cracks and breaks in it. Nevertheless, its manifestation in Kenya is a magnificent sight. The valley has walls which rise up vertically from the floor.

This is a satellite photo from NASA which has had the Rift Valley added in orange, and the border between Kenya and Tanzania in pale green. The many volcanos in the area are connected with this continental split.
