Black-backed Jackal
The Black-backed Jackal was the only member of the dog family which we saw. It is about 38 to 48cm and weighs 6 to 15kg. It mostly eats small animals, but also fruit and carrion. It is active both at night and in the daytime. We saw a pair in the very early morning at Amboseli.
